October 16,2008 Meeting
Our monthly meeting was at the Sutton Avian Research Center
just south of Bartlesville. Our presenter was Dan Reinking, Senior Biologist,
and members of the education/training staff. This was an amazing opportunity to
see a facility that is not generally open to the public. They have many interesting
avian projects and opportunities for naturalists and birders to get involved.

Dan started with a PowerPoint presentation on the Oklahoma bird atlas projects,
and then we went to the barn where the education crew ran through bird training
exercises used in the educational program that takes live birds to Oklahoma schools
to teach a variety of core subjects (more info on the education section of their web
site at
Sutton Center, including
a short video). That program is called
It's
All About Birds .

A big “Thank you” to Joe Rackley for arranging this excellent advanced training
opportunity. Members from the Master Naturalists Oklahoma Central Chapter and Missouri Master Naturalists
Chert Glades Chapter, based in the Joplin Missouri area, joined us. Thanks!
