June 8-9, 2010

Northeast Chapter Members and Current Workshop Participants

Tentatively I have set June 8th and 9th as the date for an overnight field trip to the new Ozark Plateau Refuge, south of Jay. There is a large cabin on site which should allow for an overnight stay. The trip would probably consist of an overview of the refuge and issues relating to bat management and water quality impacts of poultry liter applications in the watershed. A night vision scope is available for viewing bat emergence from a nearby cave. There is drive–in access to the site. I do not have complete details on the cabin yet but believe that we should be able to prepare meals etc there.

Additional activities could be planned depending on who is able to come and lead us. Perhaps birding or plant walks? I’m told that Spavinaw Creek is a good site for stream invertebrates and I’d be glad to lead that activity.

Please respond to me at Marley if you are interested and able to attend so we can work on further planning.

If anyone else would like a copy of the new expanded "Field Guide to Oklahoma Plants" please send a check for $35 and I can being your copy to the next meeting.
